Runway App Studio: describe a tool, get a working app

By Nigel Camp · · Updated

Runway App Studio window with a prompt bar reading “Make an app that runs my whole Runway workflow, script to cut”

Runway's post (26 Oct 2026): App Studio turns a plain-language description into a small app inside Runway, with its own controls, using Runway's own models for stills, video and sound, plus your Brand Kits and Workflows. It ships with starter apps such as Character Swap and AutoComp. It's on every paid plan, and building, running and hosting all spend credits.

What changed

Runway now builds small apps for you. You describe a tool, App Studio writes, tests and hosts it, and you keep changing it by asking, with a preview before each publish and a way back to older versions. The code's there to read if you want it. An Agent session or Workflow you already like can become an app in one click, with only the inputs your team needs left on screen. Apps can pull in your brand kits, saved workflows, assets and reference images. Six ready-made apps come with it, including Character Swap, AutoComp for putting a product into existing footage, 3D Camera Control and Precise Edit, and you can remix any of them.

Who it's for

Teams with a repeat job and one person who knows the right prompts. Any paid plan can build apps. Team and Enterprise can share them inside a workspace, and any paid account can put an app on a public link, where visitors sign in and spend their own credits. Free accounts can use the built-in apps and ones shared with them, but can't build. There's no extra fee, but building, running and hosting all come out of your credit balance, and the post gives no typical cost per app.

What it means for a cut

This is mostly about versioning, not the edit itself. The examples Runway gives are the jobs that eat a post schedule: recasting a spot for each market, swapping a product across a range of SKUs, matching translated end titles to the master's fonts and layout, or making a background plate that follows a green-screen camera move. Most of those were built by early-access customers, so they aren't in the starter set. The post says nothing about exporting to an editing app or which file formats come out, so expect to bring results into your timeline by hand.
